JTI seeks Tobacco Taxation Manager
The objective of the Tobacco Taxation Group is to support JTI’s sustainable profit generation by defining tax positions and developing related advocacy.
- Analyzing, anticipating and providing business solutions to economic, political and regulatory events which influence tobacco taxation
- Understanding the impact of fiscal challenges on JTI’s business and performance goals
- Developing strategies to support JTI’s commercial objectives and improving the company’s ability to engage on excise issues.
The position has a strong focus on analytical and advocacy aspects. The incumbent’s main tasks are to support regions and markets in the development and execution of tobacco taxation strategies. The incumbent will also support capacity building across and beyond JTI and support the assessment of and response to global tobacco taxation challenges. In order to achieve these objectives and meet the needs of the organization, the incumbent will work closely with market and regional management teams and HQ functions.
Support market taxation strategy development by analyzing key market trends and assessing multiple excise and pricing scenarios to serve as a basis for management’s decision making. Work closely with market management and provide clear and strong advice/guidance/support/solutions regarding tobacco taxation’s implications to the business and JTI’s portfolios. This requires the development and maintenance of market excise and pricing databases and comprehensive market excise models.
Support markets’ fiscal engagement by developing best practice fiscal policy advocacy materials on the basis of factual research. Work with other functions and/or external partners as appropriate. Contribute to engagement with stakeholders. Build tobacco taxation and advocacy capacity across JTI by preparing and delivering trainings and workshops and developing and maintaining tools for internal knowledge sharing (e.g., periodic intranet updates, updating country fact sheets etc.). Contribute to the Tobacco Taxation Group’s work on global tobacco taxation challenges by monitoring developments in the external environment and providing clear and concise briefings, recommendations and guidance to JTI’s management. In order to achieve these objectives, the incumbent shall:- build and continuously improve their network of internal stakeholders in regions, markets and HQ functions, and further develop their relevant external network as appropriate- monitor economic, political and regulatory developments, and research publications on fiscal policy and public finance
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Economics/Finance/Accounting/Taxation (or equivalent) with strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
Minimum three years’ experience in financial planning and analysis, econometrics, and/or public finance budget planning & coordination. Experience in excise, general taxation, fiscal engagement and government relations in highly regulated industry or public administration considered a plus.
Skills, Competencies & Languages
Excellent spoken and written English skills essential. Other language(s), especially Russian or Spanish, considered a plus.
Strong knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and graph software essential. Understanding of tobacco excise systems and how they impact product portfolio and industry profitability.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including reports, presentations, and relationship building. This includes capability to present complex issues in a simple manner and adapt presentations for a wide variety of stakeholders of different seniority levels and with different levels of technical knowledge. Well-developed organizational and management skills.
