Description

In this role you will work with the Head Government and Industry Affairs (GAIA),Europe in the execution and management of Zurich’s Public Policy, Thought Leadership, and Corporate Responsibility mandatesstrategies at the European level. The role also interacts with GAIA teams at the national level and provides support the Group Head of Government and Industry Affairs when required. The role will be based in Zurich’s Corporate Center in Zurich, Switzerland, whilst reporting to the Head of GAIA, Europe in Brussels. It is expected that the role will require extensive travel (up to 25%) which will include regular trips to Brussels and other European locations.

Your role

As a Government Affairs Manager Europe your main responsibilities would involve:

  • Monitoring and reporting on EU policy developments
  • Researching, preparing presentations and briefing materials for Senior Leaders
  • Analysing potential impacts of key public policy developments
  • Developing of policy positions in coordination with internal subject matters experts
  • Articulating and executing advocacy strategies (including coordination with GAIA colleagues in Zurich and at the national level) on issues of responsibility
  • Contributing to the successful execution of the European Regional Advisory Council and other relevant events
  • Supporting Zurich’s Regional Chairman for Europe in activities related to public policy issues at the European level and across the region
  • Assisting in maintenance of internal reporting and public policy tools
  • Building and maintaining relationships with external policy-makers and internal stakeholders and
  • Coordinating with Zurich’s Industry Associations and external support agencies

Your Skills and Experience

As Government Affairs Manager Europe your skills and qualifications would ideally include:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in economics, political science, or law
  • 5 years of relevant experience in Government Affairs, the insurance sector, or relevant industry
  • Understanding of the insurance (Zurich) business model and impact of legislation on its operation
  • Knowledge of the, or interest, in the policy-making process
  • Knowledge of, or willingness/ability to learn, the nuances of the European policy-making process
  • Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory environment and impact on Zurich’s business would be a plus
  • Fluent English (written and spoken), other languages (particularly German, French, Italian) are beneficial
  • Strong inter-personal, written and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated person, very well organized
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with multiple projects

Additional Information

Primary work location is in Zurich’s Group Headquarters in Switzerland, although significant travel up to 25% of the working time is expected.
